Bottom ten of 2008

Well yesterday I did my personal top ten, now lets see, if off the top of my head I can come up with the ten sports moments or stories that I hated, or was the worst for me.

1) Clemens- he is a easy number one, that thing was so annoying, it seemed like it would never end. I am so glad I haven't heard a lot about it in the last couple of months.

2) Farve- Will he retire, he retired, he came back, where will he play? It was right up there. I don't hate Brett Farve but I am getting close to hating him. I think a lot of it is still the people that cover it more then him, but he has a lot to do with it as well.

3) Tigers season- A personal one, but when you spent the money they did, 3rd highest payroll behind the Yanks and Mets, all who didn't make the playoffs, and bring in the people they brought in, expectations were high. Being in Michigan that is all we heard was how great the year was going to be. I will admit I expected big things, and maybe I shouldn't have, but I did. I had faith for as long as I could, even after a bad start, I played the "we have lots of time left, it will be fine" card I think a record 100 times or more during the season, but just a bad year.

4) Uofm Football-I am not a fan, but for that program to have the kind of year it did, it is a bottom ten sports story... the same thing is about to happen to IU basketball right now.

5) Lions- Should be higher I guess because of 0-16, but I am not a fan, so I don't really care, they are just bad, and will be until WC Ford sells the team or lets someone who knows what they are talking about make all the moves, having Millen's assistant be the new GM doesn't sound like the best idea.

6) CMU-Ball State- I will do one last personal one. Loosing at home to Ball State which ended our chance for a 3rd MAC title in a row was a tough last home game for our team, and our Sr's. Ball State is a good team, and they had a great year, and it actually was a great game, minus the final score, but that night basically ended our season and we didn't recover, looser our next game after that, plus the bowl game.

7) Cowboys- I hate them, so I love it, but what a train wreak, from 13-3 last year, to loosing their first playoff game, again, to my giants, to the soap opera that was this year, that story is a bottom story for the year, pour Ed Werder, he must almost live in Dallas by this point.

8) Men's and Women's 4 by 100 relay- Confused, well let me explain. The 4 by 100 relay has basically be owned by both the men's and women's track teams of the USA since about 1980, and this year both teams didn't even make the finals and both were disqualified for dropping the baton. This isn't that big of a deal now, as I am sure almost everyone forget, but this was a big deal at the time, and at least to me, who likes history and tradition and knowing how good we normally do in that race.

9) Tom Brady's Knee- Maybe it should be higher or not on this list, I don't know. I mean I am not a fan, so it wasn't bad for me, besides that I picked them to win the super bowl in my preseason picks, but there is no question it was a big story, and changed the NFL season, for better or worse, so I thought it was worth mentioning.

10)M Vick- Wow, I can't believe I forget about this for this long. I am too lazy to changed the list, but lets just say this is number 3, and move everything else down a spot. What a bad story. It got a lot of coverage, just like the Clemens and Farve cases, so it is top 3 bottom sports stories of the year, no question about it.

So what did I forget, This was a lot harder then the top ones. Maybe I just tried to forget them already. what are your personal sports moments that you hated this year. I do have to mention, I forget to mention Bolt's 100 win yesterday, the fact that he pulled up so early in the 100 M final was amazing, and something that was a great, or bad depending on how you feel about tauting, moment. I'm right, you're wrong.

Top 10 of 2008

OK, well I will admit, I just thought about doing this, so I know I am going to leave out a lot of things, but I will try my best to remember the best I can. The Top ten sports moments, for me, for 2008. I would love to hear your list, and what I forgot.

1) Giants win the super bowl- For me it isn't even close, this is number one by a lot. My sports year got off to a great start.

2) Tiger's US Open win- on one leg, 91 holes, making all those big putts when he needed to, he is just so great, he makes golf worth watching. Without him, most of the year I haven't watch any golf, but that US open will always stand out.

3) Phelps Gold's- All of them, but mainly the first one in the relay, and the last one. I really caught Olympic fever this year, and Phelps was a big reason why.

4) TB Rays- So they didn't win it all, but what a season, coming for no where, actually they came from somewhere, the bottom, to win the AL east, and then to make it to the world series, what a great sports story. Then the story gets better for some, because Phili won a title again, their first in the 4 major sports since 83.

5) Boston-LA NBA Finals- Yeah I am a Pistons fan, and a big one, so it did hurt me to see my Pistons lose AGAIN, in the conference finals, but if there is to be any other finals match up and the Pistons can't be in it, then I want Lakers-Celtics, just because of the great history in that series. The fans, all the great players, and as much as I hate to admit it, the NBA is better when the Celtics are good.

6) The Redeem team-Just because the gold medal in men's basketball is back to where it belongs. We got great players, to go with some very good players who did their roles well, guys where not about the name on the back, but the name on the front, and it showed. They played hard and played well. It was a great tournament to watch.

7) Kansas-Memphis- Kansas comes back and wins a great game in OT. The terrible free throw shooting for the Tigers finally catches up to them in a game that they should have won and had a chance to ice at the line. That's why they are called Free throws, you are suppose to make more then 50% of them.

8) Davidson.. ok Steph Curry- I will admit, I have known about him for a few years because I love college basketball, so Steph reached "boy" status with me awhile ago. But during last seasons NCAA tournament he made believers of everyone else. I will admit I didn't think he could do what he did, he had some help, but he was doing a lot by himself. I was just mad because they had to play Gonzaga in the 1st round, who I am a fan of, so it was sad that they had to lose, but then beating G-town, and then I was at ford field for their sweet 16 win vs Wisconsin, which was great, so that was a great sports moment this year, and I think the fact that I was at the sweet 16 game, is why it still stands out with me as a top moment, and will be something I remember for a long time.

9) Red Wins win the cup again-The cup comes back to Hockey town. I am not a wings fan, and I really don't follow hockey at all until the playoffs, but I wanted to add this for the 5 or 6 true hardcore hockey fans left in the world.. does anyone know when their season starts? wait, what, it started when, are you sure?

10) CMU-WMU football- I added a very very personal one. Being able to be on the sidelines, well tech. behind the end zone, but on the field, to watch my Alma mater play our biggest rival and win by 10 as my best friend on the team, and one of the few guys I still know on the team, Brain Brunner, our backup QB gets to start and play the entire game due to injury and leads us to a big 10 point win. It was such a great game and it is something I know, personally, I know no one else cares, I will remember for a long time.

ok, so what did I forget, what personal moments do you throw in that means a lot for you? I want to know. I'm right, you're wrong.

NFL reg. season over

well after going 10-6 this week, I finish the reg. season with a 160-95-1 record. The Pats had a great year and really showed how great of a coach they have, going 11-5 without Brady and many other injuries but still don't make the playoffs. Meanwhile two 8-8 teams did. Lets look at the playoff match ups quickly.

ATL at ARZ- Should be a good game, two teams who are built to play inside in a warm dome. So it should be a good game for both to let their offensives shine. Since it is at home, I really like the Cards in this one, early pick, Cards win 28-21

PHI at Viks- I know it is in Minn, but the way the Eagles looked this week, and with Jackson your qb, he is going to get blitz so much, they may need to play JDB before the game is done. I want the Viks to win, cause I would rather have my Giants play the Cards or Falcons then the Eagles right now, but I don't see it happening. Phi wins 24-14

IND at SD- What a big time match up in the wild card round. Both teams are on a roll right now and I like both of them. This is a tough one for me. I want to go with the home team, but the Colts are looking like the Colts of old, so I will give it to them 28-24

Bal at Mia- What a great turnaround for the Dolphins, a true feel good story. They have had a great year, but the Ravens D is too good and Falco does what he has to to win the game. Even on the road the Ravens come in and win 17-10

The worst thing about the off season, for most teams, starting, the Brett Farve watch, will he play or will he retire watch has started, and it drives me crazy. Just retire and go away, and please, everyone stop talking about it, he is 39 and isn't a good qb anymore, 22 td and 22 int, anyone else with those numbers get any attention at all, no, they would be cut, or they would be backing up.

In other news, Uconn-G-town tonight, I am looking forward to that one.. big Monday is back, yes. Also my Chippewas play at Ken, lets hope they keep it close. I'm right, you're wrong.

Week 17 NFL Picks

well with xmas and everything I am behind. I hope everyone had a great time. My Jacobs jersey is in the mail, and I can't wait till it gets here, thanks mom and dad. First things first, last week I went 9-6. which makes me 150-89-1 on the year. Here it is, the last week of the year, my last season picks, I will pick the playoffs every week to, but this is my last chance to improve my reg. season record. Here we go.

-Sea at Arz- The Cards don't need to play, they have their spot, but the seahawks are bad, they got a nice win last week for their coaches last home game, can they send him out a winner on the road, I don't think so. Cards win 28-14

Stl at Atl- The Falcons are in already too, but I think they will still try to win, and I think they will. ATL 21-10

Car at NO- Panters are in, Saints are out, but they play well at home, I think one last time, Saints win 35-24

Chi at Hou- As everyone knows by now I like the Texans, mainly because of Andre Johnson, who let me down last week vs the Raiders, 19 yards, who saw that coming, but he still had a great year, and even loosing in the title game I got 60 bucks, so that's cool. Anyway, I like the Texans at home, but after last week's OT win, the Bears can still win that division, so I have changed my mind. Bears win 21-17

Dal at Phi- After the way both teams looked last week, this one is tough. I don't like either team, but I hate the cowboys. So, one time, I will semi cheer for phili. Eagles win 24-21

Det at GB- The dream is alive, the worst season in NFL history, shows you how important the preseason is, where the Lions were 4-0, and are now about to be 0-16 in the reg. season. Wonderful. The bad part, it is in Green Bay, so it will not be blacked out here, so I get to watch history happen, yeah. I would much rather get a real NFL game, oh well. There is a small part of me that says the Packers will mess up and the Lions win, but that is a very small part, so close to the dream season, they will find a way, Packers win 17-10

NYG at Min- I want to say, like last year, in a game that doesn't mean anything to them, the Giants will still play hard, to keep momentum going, but this is a totally different thing, they have a bye anyway, and home field, and the Viks need to win. David Carr should get some major PT. I still think the Giants will keep it close, but give it to the Viks 24-21

Was at SF- The Skins finish up a disappointing season with a win at the 49ers. History changes this year, as the first time ever after the Giants win the super bowl, the next year the Skins will not, they did it the first two times, beating the team the Giants just beat, both times by the way, but that streak is over... Now I just hope the Giants can repeat, it is going to be hard, but I have faith. Skins 21-14

Oak at TB- Bucks win 24-10.. next

Jags at Bal- Here is my upset pick of the week, the Jags put it all together one time this year to ruin the Ravens chances of making the playoffs. But with some picks later, they might still get in. Jags win 21-17

NE at Buf- I picked them to win the AFC east, even without Brady and they still can, I like the Pats to win here and then get some help, more on that later. Pats win 21-10

KC at Cin- I mean come on, do I really need to say anything about this, I feel so bad for anyone at this game. But lets go with the home team, why the hell not. Cinci wins 17-10

Cle at Pit- Steelers take it all out on the Browns, this one might get ugly. Steelers win 28-7

Den at SD- The Super Chargers can still save me a little, since I picked them to win the west, ok, so I picked them to go like 14-2, but whatever. These teams hate each other, and this is the way it should be, play it out in week 17 to see who gets to the playoffs. By who I picked alone, and the fact that I like them, of course I am picking the Chargers, big game from Rivers and LDT please. SD wins 31-24

Ten at Ind- This game will be much like a preseason scrimmage. Tickets should be free. Vince Young should play, and the great Jim Sorgi, should be fun. Since the Colts are home, I will say their backups, beat the Titan backups 14-10

Mia at NYJ-So this is a big game, against a good team, that means the Jets will win. Giving the Pats the east title. I wish the Dolphins win this game, and as long as the Ravens lose I will be ok with it, cause then the Pats would still make the playoffs, I just don't see it happening. The Jets play good in big games at home, when they need to, and they play bad in games against bad teams. Mia has had a great year, and they are a great story, but I like the home team, again, I hope I am wrong, and I also hope that no one got hurt this year hoping off and on the Brett Farve Bandwagon. Jets win 24-21

so there you have it, the last reg. season picks of the year. Hopefully it will go well for me. I can start focusing a lot more on basketball as soon as the NFL and college bowl seasons are over. Which reminds me, CMU plays FAU tonight in the MCB, our 3rd in a row, it should be entertaining, lots of points and yards, CMU wins 38-24 Go fire up Chips, proud to be a Chippewa. I'm right, you're wrong.

A great day of college basketball

I know it's a big NFL sunday, but while I wait for the big game I care about tonight, I wanted to talk about yesterday and some of the big time college basketball games that took place.

MSU-Texas- MSU showed they will be fine, they have a lot of talent, and with Suton back now they will only get better. This was a great college basketball game, Summers hit a big time 3 for the game winer, and even though it wasn't in Auston, Houston is a lot closer to Austin then East Lansing, so this is a great win. Texas is also very good, no question about it, and I can't wait to watch them play OK. One there are big rivals anyway, but they are both very good. OK beat VCU yesterday, which doesn't get it's own thing, but Blake Griffen is someone I could watch play college basketball all day and never get sick of it, also their Freshmen G Warren isn't too bad himself.

-Purdue-Davidson- Even Steph Curry, who reached boy status with me a long time ago, has off shooting nights. Purdue game out ready to play and just flat out rolled playing in Indy, their home away from home, they play at least two games or so there each year. Davidson just never got started, manily because Curry was off all night, and was not his usually self, I look for him to bouce back in a big way. Also Purdue is good, don't let their blowout loss to Duke fool you, this is a very good college basketball team, they have a lot of guys who can flat out play.

Min-Louis- The Gophers were undefeated but didn't play anyone, well, that isn't true anymore. Louis will of course have many more chances to prove themselves in the big east, but this loss hurts. Min might have a say in the big ten, which like I said eariler, like two weeks ago, is much better then a lot of people think. Besides MSU and Purdue, who I still think one of those two will win it, Wis, Uofm, OSU, Min, and ILL all have been playing good, plus PSU and even Northwestern is much improved. I can't wait to watch a lot of big ten basketball in the next few months.

-Duke-X- I didn't see this game, but damn, Duke just took it to them. Xavier may have been a little overrated, but make no mistake, they are a good basketball team. Duke is very deep and talented, I know it is easy to hate on Duke, but they are good, and they could spilt with UNC, making the ACC intrsting.

-Uconn-Gonzaga-My Zags, 3rd favorite team behind MSU, and of course my alma mater CMU number one, gave this one away. Of course Uconn is very good, so there is nothing to hang your head about a OT loss to them. Gonzaga is a legit final four contender, I really think this is the year. They are deep and loaded. Uconn is stacked of course, and I like them to win the big east, they are going to lose some games, because that conference is too deep and talented, but I like them to win it.

-Memphis-Cuse- Even without the pirde of Bay City Michigan, Eric " I slap a hoe" deendorph (don't care to spell his name right, he is a tool) Cuse got a big road win at Memphis. Memphis is talented, but they are young, Conference USA, manily UAB and Houston are better, and going undefeated in conference is not likly. They still will be fine. I think the Cuse will fall off a little and finish 5th or 6th in the big east... which is still good.

Right now that is all I want to talk about.. because it's time for my giants... in other news.. my pistons still haven't won on Sunday... talk about a sure thing. I'm right, you're wrong

A sure thing

For those of you would bet on sports, and you want to make money. There is one way to do it. Every time the Jazz play the Pistons, bet on the Jazz to win. After last night's double OT thriller, the Jazz have now beating my beloved Pistons 7 times in a row, and 9 of the last ten. With the Pistons only win being a 64-62 game during the 04-05 season. Even in a game like last night, where both teams continued to come up with big play after big play, the Jazz made one more play when they had to, and won the game. It was a very entertaining basketball game, and a very good NBA game, minus the final outcome of course. There are just a few problems I am going to touch on, one, because I want to write on here more, and two, because there are so many things that could have happened, that I seconded guess, and three, it is easy to second guess when the game is over and you know the outcome.

-The Refs were not great, I am using this first, because it isn't very important, sure they were bad, and sure 4 Pistons fouled out, zero Jazz btw, but that isn't why the Pistons lost, I just thought I would mentioned it.

-Tie game with 41 seconds to play, Jazz have 2.5 left on the shot clock, and Curry takes out AI and Rip, which is fine, AA and Stuck are better on defense, and they get the job done and the Jazz do not score, the problem: now you have your last chance with the ball in a tied game with your two best offensive options, both had over 30 last night, on the bench. That doesn't make too much sense does it.

-To make it worse you then run a play to get Sheed a 3 pointer in the corner. Now a few things to remember, one, it's a tied game, and two, why a corner 3. Everyone knows Sheed's shot is a 3 at the top of the key. So run a pick n roll with Sheed and Stuck, Sheed, of course will not roll, but pop out to the 3 point line, and Stuck can attack the basket, or kick back up top to Sheed, who shoots from the top much better then he does from the wing.

-So he misses it, and now you need one more stop to go to OT, well they don't get it, but D Wills actually made a mistake and shot the ball too soon, giving the Pistons 2.4 left. So AI and RIP go back in the game, and RIP hits a jumper to send the game to OT.

-At the end of the 1st OT, basically the same thing happens. In a tie game, without AI in, and Sheed has already fouled out, We run a play and Stuck hits RIP who takes a 3 pointer from the corner. Again, tied score, and we are taking a 3 in the corner, again I say, get to the basket, give Stuck the ball, post up Ta Ta, or heaven forbid have AI in, and let him create, or even just have RIP run off screens. There is 1.3 left, and luckily D Wills takes too much time, one to many dribbles, and takes a off balance shot that misses.

-Now RIP is out, to join, Sheed, then Mcdy's and Stuck join them as well, so now in the second OT we have Max and Herrmann in, as well as AA, who even though he is a decent player and a good defender, you don't want him taking big shots, he took one, and missed it. Jazz make some plays, hit their free throws, and we lose by 6.

-This is the problem with jump shooting teams, you relay on it too much, and if you are off, you are in trouble. Tied game, use AI, or Stuck on a high screen n roll, or pick n pop, and get to the basket, don't take corner 3's.

Thank you, I just needed to get that out. I am now going to go lift, to try to get out some of this anger. Bowl season starts today, oh happy day. I'm right, you're wrong.

NFL week 16 Picks

Only one more week after this one left. We have two BIG games this week, one each in the AFC and NFC, so lets get to it. I went 11-5 last week. So lets try to keep this going.

Arz at NE- The Cards clinched, the Pats haven't and need to win. Plus at home, cold, maybe some snow, I don't like the Cards chances. Pats win 24-14

ATL at Min- I see the Viks finding a way in a game with two great RB. Viks win 21-17

Car at NYG- Wow, so it all comes down to this, Panters at my Giants, winner gets the 1 seed, home field though out, clinch first round bye, all that good stuff. I really hope Jacobs playes, they need him, they need to run the ball and control the line. Since they are at home, and since I am a very big fan, I hope and pray they find a way. I am worried, but I am going with my G-men. Giants win 24-21

GB at Chi- Bears still have something to play for, Packers really don't, and it is in Chicago. But I know the Packers would love to knock the Bears out of the playoffs, I just don't see it happening. Bears win 17-10

Bal at Dal- Great Ravens D vs great Cowboys O, since it is in Dallas, I am going to give it to the Cowboys, but I am hoping I am wrong. Dallas 14-10

NO at Det- I am thinking about it, but no, it's not happening. Bress will not let it happen. Saints win 28-17

Phi at Was- Eagals are playing very good right now, and the Skins are done. but again, the Skins are at home, and would love to ruin the eagals chances, but I don't see it. Phili wins 17-10

SF at Stl- I feel bad for all fans. I will give it to the home team, 14-10

NYH at Sea- Jets haven't won going out east yet, and the Seahawks have been playing a little better, but I don't see it. Jets 24-10

SD at TB- Chargers still have a chance, I like the Bucks, but I am riding with the chargers one more time. SD wins 31-21

Buf at Den- Denver at home, the Bills are done, but I want the Chargers to win the division, so I have to stick with that. Bills find a way 24-21

Cin at Cle- In a nother game that I feel bad for the fans, lets give it to the home team. Browns win 14-10

Hou at Oak- What great luck, in a week that I am in a fantasy football title game, for money and the Texans play the Raiders.. great, lets go Andre Johnson. Texans win 28-14

Ind at Jags- Colts need to win, and can clinch the 5th seed tonight, Jags are done, and are so disappointed, I like the Colts 24-14

Mia at KC- I like the road team in this one, mainly cause I don't like KC, at all. Mia wins 24-14

Pit at Ten- The big game in the AFC, I like the Steelers in this one, they are playing so good right now, and have a great defense, and with Hansworth out, I don't know how the Titans will play. Steelers win 17-10

Well there you go, week 16. Should be fun. I haven't been posting as much as I want to, just busy coaching and stuff, but once xmas is over, I hope to be back to posting 4 or 5 times a week, instead of one or two. enjoy. I'm right, you're wrong.

Monday, December 15, 2008

weekend wrap up.. NFL included.

5 minutes left, and up 20 at home, I think I can count the eagals game done, and thus do my NFl recap. I went 11-5 this week, making my year record to 141-83-1. I was right about my upset picks, thank you Texans, and most of all, thank you Andre Johnson. Who saw the bengals game coming? KC almost ruined it for me, but Sd came back, and the rams and hawks was not watchable, but ended close, and I was off on the team... and then there is my giants:

I am getting very worried. I hate to say this, but I have a bad feeling. Almost like the Giants are the Cowboys of last year, and Dallas is the Giants of last year. meaning the team that is up and down and the reg. season, and no one is really excepting much from them, gets hot at the right time, and wins it all. I would be so mad if the Cowboys win it all. The problem is there are talented, and they have had their injuries, now they are getting their guys back and looking good. Jacobs needs to be back, and our O line needs to block. Dallas' front is very good, but they looked like the best of all time Sunday night, and they are not that good. Of course no running game, equals no respect for play action and thus, you get a all out pass rush and Eli runs for his life. I just have to keep reminding myself, they won the super bowl last year, and I said I would give them a year or two, where I wouldn't freak out and be happy. Of course, saying that, I thought they would be 10-6, or so maybe even 9-7. But they started 11-1 and now have lost two in a row. Setting up the game of the year in the NFC. They beat the Panters at home on Sunday night they get the one seed, home field though out, which would be great. Of course the way they have been playing lately I don't think it will matter. But they can still regroup and defend their title.

-The Steelers just find a way to win. Their defense needs to start being mentioned in the 85 bears, 86 giants, 99 ravens group. They are not there yet, since all of those teams won super bowls, but they are very very good.

Really I covered the NFL, at least all I wanted to say, for now.. so lets move on.

-What is up with all the NBA coaching moves so early on. I mean give the guys sometime. I love how the 76ers, who was a lot of people's sexy pick this year, already fired their coach, as did the wizards who have made the playoffs the last few years as well. It is a strange world we live in... Then again, when you give coaches millions of dollars a year, you except good things.

- Same thing with college football, all these quick coaching moves... Turner Gill needs a big job offer, he deserves it, he turned around Buffalo, if you can recruit their, you can do it anywhere. He just won the MAC, cmu did beat them during the reg. season btw, but I move on, and got them to just their second bowl ever, first that they will be playing in, if you don't know the story.. look it up, it's a great one. I am not going to say Auburn's hire had anything to do with race, cause I don't know.. but I am here to tell you, you can see why people would think that, take a coach who has done a great job turning around a program, in not a lot of time, or take a guy who has a below 500 record, ummm..just something to look at.

-One quick, personal note. On Friday, after my high school kids lost to Arthur Hill, the 4th ranked team in the state, I was driving to Walmart to pick up some things for my very soon bride to be, and I was talking to her on the phone, and driving a little too fast around the corner, not really paying attention, where my car hit some ice, and I went in to a kind of ditch, snow break type thing. While I was mad at myself, and trying to get myself out, a few things came to mind. It was amazing to see how many cars would slow down, cause they saw my lights, and then just kept driving. The second car that drove by were two ladies, I would guess at least 35-40, and they tried to help, even offered to drive me somewhere, or to walmart to pick up a shovel, but I called my old roommate Rob, and him and his current roommate Dom, came with a shovel to help get me out. So the two ladies, wished me a merry xmas and went on their way, many other cars past before Rob and Dom got there. Only one of them, a car with a college age couple, stopped. The guy got out and started helping me, and then once Rob and Dom came with the shovel were were able to do some digging, and Dom put some gas to it, as we pushed it out. I am very thankful to Rob and Dom, and the random guy I don't know for helping me. But I am sad at the thought of how many people drove by. I guess long story short, in this time of year, more then any other, but it is a good thing to do always, try to think about that, and be the person who stops, and helps, knowing that if you were in the same spot, you would want people to stop too.

Anyway, that was just something on my mind, that I wanted to get out. I hope to spend a little more time on this soon, and give more basketball, both college and pro, and maybe a little Michigan high school, for those who would care, updates.

One last thing about the Heisman. Congrates to Bradford he had a great year, and I have no problem with him wining. But how in the blue hell was Timbow left off so many ballets. I mean, really. Watch a college football game. We will get a better chance during bowl time, to see these big 12 defenses, and see if they are just that bad, or if some of those offenses were just so good, but how you don't have him in your top three, I have no idea. And for the record, I hate Florida, but if you are voting for a award, you have to look at it non bias. Just thought I would add that before I went to bed for the night. I'm right, you're wrong.

NFL week 15 picks.. and some more

It's Thursday, and there is a lot to get to, I hope I remember everything I want to touch on, so lets get right in to my week 15 NFL picks:

Min at Arz- The Viks need this game more, and T-Jack will be starting. The Cards play better at home, and even though they have clinched the division I don't think they are just going to lay down. Having said that, I think the Viks will find a way, AD AP runs all over them, and the Viks win 24-21

TB at ATL- No question I had the bucks during my preseason picks, but looking at how well Atlanta has played at home, I am really thinking about this one, but I am done with that now, TB needs the win, and they will get it, Bucks 21-17

Den at Car- Denver is like the Chargers, Jets and Saints, they have some great games, and then some bad losses, which team will show up. I don't care, Panters at home, I am going with them 28-17

NO at Chi- Oh I was wrong about the Saints, and I want to still believe they have a outside chance at the playoffs, but playing in Chi town, where they are 1-5 on the road already this year, the bears need the win to stay with the viks and on top of the packers in the north, It will be cold, maybe some snow, defense and running the ball, bears win 14-10

NYG at Dal- Dallas at home, I actually picked them in my preseason picks, and the Giants have clinched the division, however, they want to show they don't need Plax, and that they can bounce back, they also want home field, and they would love to keep the cowboys from the playoffs, you add all that together, plus the fact that I am a die hard Giants fan, they bounce back and win 28-21

Det at Ind- Do I really need to do this one... of course, this would be the type of game the Lions win, but it isn't happening. Colts roll 35-10

GB at Jags- I am so over the Jags, I am done picking them this year, that is for sure. Packers need a win to have any chance of getting that division at 8-8, if the bears and viks lose, it could still happen. Packers win 24-14

Cle at Phi- Dorsey at qb, and he doesn't have as many weapons as he had at da U. I like phili in this game 24-7

Sea at Stl- Man I feel bad for anyone who has to watch this game. Rams are at home, so lets give it to them. Rams win 10-7

Sf at Mia- Give it to the better team at home, who still can make the playoffs, easy choice for me. Mia 24-10

Was at Cin- Another game, that I shouldn't even have to pick, Skins 24-7

Pitt at Bal- You know a big part of me wants to take the Ravens at home, but then again, I did just say on Tuesday the Steelers look like the best team in the AFC, so why not stick with that, Steelers win 14-10

Buf at NYJ- Jets need this game, and they just had a bad loss, that means, they play well, jets win 24-14

Ten at Hou- I have thought about it, and I have made up my mind. The Upset of the week pick, I will stick with my preseason pick, the Texans at home put up some points, as does Andre Johnson for me, and they win, Titans have clinched, they relax, a little, Texans win 28-17

SD at KC- SD wins, LDT gets two TD's and everyone is happy. SD 28-10

NE at Oak- Matt Cassell might not play, as he is sadly dealing with the death of his father. Even if he doesn't, the Pats can win this game, plus they have to, thus they will. Pats 24-10

OK, moving on.... my Pistons:

I am usually a class half full kind of a guy when it comes to basketball and baseball, or my pistons and tigers, and a little bit of the cubs in the NL, due to how long the season is, I do not freak out over a bad loss, or even 3 or 4 in a row. But I must admit I am starting to get a little worried. First Friday night, I was at the game where they were up 15 in the 3rd to the 76ers playing without brand, and they lost, then they are down as much as 29 to the Knicks on Sunday, before coming back, but still loosing, they are now 0-5 on Sunday's, and 11-5 on every other day. But then they go to Play the Wizards on the road, who, lets face it, are not good. In the first half they are up by as many as 17, and what happens. Curry leaves in guys 8 though 12 in the game all together until the lead is about 4 or so, before putting some of the guys back in. This is the NBA, this isn't 7th grade, everyone plays basketball. You don't need to, or should you, play 12 guys in a game. Yeah it is a long season, rest your guys a little, but your best 7 players should never be all on the bench at the same time while your bottom five play all together, unless the game is in the 4th and the lead is more then 25. A 15 point lead in the first half does not mean the game is over. Listen I like our bench, I actually think it is very good. Herrmann is a good player, AA, Bynum has played ok, Jason and Brown or Amir, they can help a team. Those guys should not all be in at the same time. Ever. Mcdyess playing in his first game back, maybe got too many minutes, jacked up some shots, you want to get his legs back, but put him in with sheed, AI, Ta and Rip, not will, AA, walter and Amir. It really looks like Curry is way way way over his head. A rookie head coach usually has a young team around him, thus they can learn as they go, with each other. This is a veteran team still, for the most part, and a lot of these guys played with Curry, and started ahead of him, I think they are more his friends then anything. Even with him being on staff, an assistant is more of a friend then the head coach. They need to be able to read guys and know when to take them aside, or know when they need to laugh, or smile, to keep them in the game. The head coach is the law, he is the authority figure, and I just don't think most, if not all, of the Pistons respect Curry enough to listen to him, they might like him, but they don't respect him, and listen when he talks. Just watch them in a timeout if you get a chance, see if they are looking at him, or are they talking to each other, or looking at the fans, laughing, telling jokes. It is a big problem. I heard it said yesterday on the Huge show, a good Michigan sports talk show which I try to listen to a lot, and I have called in a few times, including yesterday about the pistons, and he predicted that Curry will not make it to the all star break. Now I don't know about that, but this team doesn't have a lot of time, so maybe that is true. The problem you need to find a guy with the track record that has the respect of a Larry Brown type, or Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, someone like that, your average coach is not going to get it done, because the Pistons need a guy who can fire them up, and someone they listen to. The Pistons are very very talented, that is still the case, they have the guys that they can get back to the eastern conference finals, and have a chance, but the way they are playing right now, both the Celtics and the Cavs, who I have to admit are playing great basketball right now, would beat them in 5, if not sweep them. I still have faith, and I still will be watching all the game, and waiting for them to turn it around, but I am worried.

I wanted to talk about some of the baseball moves as well, but I got to get going, and get ready for practice, and plus, this is already a really long post, so I will save it till after everything is done. I'm right, you're wrong.

NFL week 14 wrap up

Well another 10-6 week for me, which gets me to 130-78-1 on the year. I was so close in my upset pick of the week at KC almost beat Denver. They were up 17-3, and just couldn't hold on, loosing 24-17. Nice try, but coach Edwards will tell you, YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME. Here are some other things that stood out from week 14.

-My Giants didn't look good at all, but first, give credit to phili they played very well, they needed the win more and it showed. Our defense just couldn't get off the field, I think they were like 9 for 11 on 3rd downs at one point, while my G-men were 3-14, um, that's not good. Lots and lots of dropped balls, lets hope that we don't need Plax, and the only reason we won without him was because it was the seahawks, and ARZ game which was more offensive then a defensive game. I am more concerned with jacobs' knee, the MRI showed no structural damage which is great news, so hopefully he will be ready to go. I am also ok about the loss because they are 11-2 and with the cowboys loosing they clinched the division, which is great. The Problem is, they have 3 games left all against teams with wining records, which if you are scoring at home that is 10 games in a row against teams with wining records, Dallas this week, and then a big game vs the Panters as far as bye weeks are concerned, and then the Viks. If we go 2-1 in those 3 I would be very happy, we would be 13-3 and would get a first round bye, and would have home field, which would be big, even though they played great last year in the playoffs on the road, you don't want to do that, if you don't have to.

-The Lions missed their last chance to win a game, 0-16.. the dream is still alive

-The Jets... give me a second.. hahahahahahahahahahahaha, wow, all you people talking about them coming out of the afc, and how great Farve is, please stop now. Yeah they have played well at times and have some nice wins, but they have lost to the Raiders, and the 49ers, and I think they have some other bad losses too. I still hold firm that they will miss the playoffs

-The Pats will make the playoffs, I am standing by it

-The Saints gave me hope, thanks, now I will have to keep picking you.

-The Panters are a good team, and I am worried about them. They run the ball very well and Steve Smith is still very dangerous.

-Have I mentioned yet today, if you are going to a place where you think you need to bring a gun to feel safe, you shouldn't go, just thought I would remind people of that, in case anyone forgot.

-The Steelers continue to impress, I know the Titans are good, but I would pick the Steelers to come out of the AFC right now, if I had to, because if they get another home game in the playoff vs the Colts, I don't see them loosing, if they play in Indy, I like the Colts.

-I have made the playoffs in 5 of my 6 leagues in fantasy football. The last one, I made a late change and missed it by a game, since it started last week, I got a nice win, and now am tied for the 5th best record, oh well. Only two of those 5 are cash leagues, so I need to cash in at least one of them. Getting 3rd in both, would be fine, or just wining one. Lets go my teams.

-Speaking of that, if anyone wants to give me input on the matchups and tell me, what 3 of these 5 rb you would start this week, that would be great.
c johnson, r bush, m j drew, LDT, and b Jacobs
with Jacobs being hurt, I am thinking he is done, and then since I get points for catches as well, I think either bush or jones drew needs to be one... but your thoughts would be appreciated.

-I swear there was something else, but I can't remember right now, I am going to quick keep typing, to see if it comes to me, nope, I can't remember, oh well, must not have been that important. Have a great week. I'm right, you're wrong.

weekend wrap up ( Non NFL)

well we have a lot to get to, so lets get to it. The NFL will be talked about tomorrow after all the games are done for the week.

College Basketball:

Uofm-Duke- Man I should have been there, I was going to go, but my very soon to be wife said I couldn't be gone Friday night and all day Saturday. So I had to choose, go to the pistons game with my high school team that I am assistant coach at, where we had a suite for free for one of the kids birthdays, or go to that game Saturday with the best player in the state, and one very highly recruited kid. Well because the entire team was going Friday, and getting to go to a game and be in a suite is not something that happens a lot, and thinking Duke would win by at least 15, I choose to go to the Pistons game, only to watch them be up 15 and then blow it, to a Brand-less 76er team. Then I watch that game on Saturday, and as it went back and forth, all I could think of, was damn, I should be there. At practice Sunday night, I even said I was sorry to the person who I was going to go with, and who was going to get me free tickets, since Michigan is all over him. Anyway, in the words of coach knight... back to the game. This was 100% what Michigan wanted, Duke shot a lot of jump shots and missed a lot of 3's. Simns stepped up big, and we all know, at least people in the Midwest, that Manny Harris is the real deal. I am telling you, this Michigan team is good. Right now they are looking like a team that is going to go dancing. Two top 5 wins, no bad losses, Duke on a neutral site, and by 5 to a good Maryland team on the road, they will be heard from in the big ten.

OSU-ND- Speaking of teams who will be heard from in the big ten, OSU is good, and they are young, meaning they should only get better as the season goes on. They are also looking like a lock right now, and with Purdue, MSU, and Wis, the big ten might get 5 in this year. With Min or ILL maybe even making a case for 6.

MSU-Bradly- MSU got back to their wining ways after the tough one vs UNC witch was their 4 game in 7 days. They will be fine, Roe will continue to get better as the year goes on and his knee gets stronger and stronger, and once Suton gets back the big ten title still has to go threw the banks of the red cyder. Purdue or MSU are still the favorites even with uofm and osu playing very well right now.

College Football:

OK-FL- The BCS got this right, if you ask me. The two teams who are playing the best right now, and two really good football teams. Get ready for 4 weeks of hype for this one.

USC-PSU- Here is your chance to show that the big ten isn't really bad.. instead USC shows what they always show.. they are sick, and do not lose big games, that they get up for.

Bama-Utah- tough one for the Utes, but if they win, they have a legitimate complaint that they deserve some number one votes in the ap. However, I don't see it happening. I am upset, I wanted to see Texas-Bama, that would be a great game, and if Texas won that would be their best chance for a spilt national champ, and win the Ap vote.

OSU-Texas- Why? how can OSU keep getting BCS games? I know, and I will tell you, it is actually very very simple. Money, that's it, it is all about money. They are a big name program that will travel well and the ratings will be high, even if it is to see them lose. Which they will. Texas should win this game by 20. It isn't that OSU sucks, they are just not a top 10 team.

Cinci-VA Tech- in the who gives a rat ass bcs game, I will be cheering for the bearcats, only so BK will then leave and take some other job, if not, he will be gone after next year, he will not stay past that. I promise you all that.

Boise State go robed.

MSU-UGA- Wow, Michigan State you had a great year, record wise, where you beat no good teams, and your only two games against decent to good teams you got killed, your reward, a bowl game vs UGA, who was a national title pick in the start of the year, and is mad. Way to go. I like MSU, and always have, but they have as much chance in this game, as I do in getting a call from coach K right now asking me to be his top assistant. They are going to get rolled. I will be cheering for them, but they need a lot more then that.

CMU-Fl atlantic- For the 3rd year in a row my chippewas are going to the motor city bowl. This year is a little different in that we didn't just play at ford field in the mac title game, but we still get to go back to the bowl were we have set attendance records the last two years. I don't think it will be a 3rd. One last year we had a rematch with Purdue, big ten team, travel better, bigger game. This year, a 6-6 fl atl team. Now I don't know anything about them, I will be honest, maybe they are good, and maybe they will beat us. But I don't see that happening, I see it being about the same, if not worse then when we played middle tenn state in 06 and won 31-14. we have had a up and down year, but this would be a nice way to end it. The sr deserve to go out with a win. 3 bowl games in a row for our program is great, and has never happened before.

MAC Love- the MAC actually has 5 teams in bowls this year, so good luck to NIU, BSU,and Buffalo, I will be cheering for you, as for western, I can't cheer for you, but I will wish you well.

NBA:

Pistons- Real quick.. win a damn game on Sunday please. 0-5 on Sunday, 11-3 on every other day... wow.

I'm right, you're wrong

NFL week 14 picks

Yes it is Thursday again, so here we go with my week 14 NFL picks

Stl at Arz- The cards are back home, playing in the division, which means, cards win 28-10

Atl at NO- I think the Saints are done, Atlanta has been playing so well, who saw that coming, what a great job by them, but since I am a stupid, and a very slow learner, one last time, with the Saints playing at home, I am picking them to win, Saints win 31-27

Tb at Car- Man this is a big big game, and in those in the nfl you usually want to go with the home team, especially after a nice win in Green Bay last week. The Bucks can still get the two seed, unless something changes one of these two teams will, so do I give it to the home team, or do I go with what I picked in the preseason when I picked all the games? Home team, Panters win 24-21

Jag at Chi- Have I mentioned yet how wrong I was about the Jags, could not be more wrong if I tried, man, have they disappointed me. I have learned my lesson with them, I promise, Bears 17-10

Dal at Pit- Another big game for the Steelers, but it is at home again, like the Giants and Colts game, which they lost, and not on the road, like the engals and Pats game, which they won... ummm, is there a pattern forming here. Lets go with it. Dallas wins 24-21

Min at Det- Here are the Lions playing at home again, so I will not have to watch it, cause this one, will be blacked out, I am almost 100% sure about that. Lets see if they can get 5 points, so in 7 games they can score the same amount of points, 98 as UNC scored in one last night in basketball. Maybe they can get a TD, and the Viks usually play bad against the Lions, remember it was 12-10 last game in Min, and that was the game Dan O ran out of the end zone not knowing it for a safety, but I think the Viks will be ready, and no team wants to be the team to lose to the Lions, Viks win 28-10

Hou at GB- I like the Texans, ok, really I just like Andre Johnson, but in Green Bay, I have to give it to the Packers, Pack win 24-17

Phi at NYG- Another big game, against a team with a wining record for my Giants, I know the Steelers are right up there, but the Giants have played all but like three games against teams with wining records, ok, now that I think about it, 5, 49ers, seahawks, cinci, browns, who was suppose to be good, and the rams, everyone else is a playoff team, or in contention. That is a hard schedule, oh, and they are 11-1. Everything going on this week, I think the game will be a nice chance to get away from it all and come out and get a big division win. Giants 28-17

NYJ at SF- Jets, next. jets win 28-14

NE at Sea- The Pats take last weeks loss out on the hawks. Pats win 31-10.. btw.. how much does it suck to be a sports fan in that city right now, man, that has to hurt, sonics leave, your baseball team had the worst record in the AL, seahwaks suck, wash is 0-11, damn.

Was at Bal- I love the Ravens D but this is a must win for the skins, of course with a Steelers lose and a Ravens they could be in first place, so I am on the face on this one, this actually might be the second or third best game of the wee, a lot on the line. So, do I go with the home team, or my preseason pick? wait, in the preseason I picked the home team, oh, well, in that case Ravens win 17-14

Mia at Buf- Bills at home, lets give them one last chance to get semi back in the race. Bills win 24-21

Cin at Ind- Colts roll 31-7, next

Cle at Ten- Titans get the job done. 24-10

Kc at Den- Denver at home, played great last week, I almost want to take KC, and you know what..... I will.... my UPSET PICK OF THE WEEK.... KC wins 28-27

Oak at SD- In tonight's game, called the 2008 NFL Europe championship by Mike n Mike, that league went under if you didn't know, I like the Chargers to roll, please, one last time, play like a good team. Actually I need LDT to do it a few more times, and if Rivers doesn't put up big fantasy numbers tonight I might have to find him and beat him up. SD wins 31-10

ok, so there you go, week 14 already. One last non football thing:

UNC-MSU- UNC is stacked, and yeah MSU doesn't have Suton yet and Roe is not 100%, and I knew UNC would win, but by 35. Wow, it wasn't a true on campus home game, and I actually thought that hurt MSU a little bit, not that they would have won, and they hung around for awhile, but UNC is just too much. Ty Lawson needs to be on that All American team with Curry, Psyco T, Griffen and Luke Harrengody.. I mean, they can announce that now.. that is the 1st team, right there. No question in my mind. The thing that people need to know, MSU is a good, talented team, and they will be much better at the end of the year then they are right now, that is just how good UNC is, they have know beaten two teams that are both very good, in ND and MSU and both games were not at home and they destroyed both teams, they are not wining games, they are killing people. I still think it is too hard to go undefeated the entire way in college basketball in a major conference and win it all. But I will stand by the point I made that no one will beat them in a big game they are up for, you need to catch them off guard. They have to play bad, and you have to shoot the ball very very well. That's your only chance.

Of course Duke looked great on Tuesday night, and Purdue is a very good team as well, so that will be a great game, and the UNC-Duke game at Duke, might be UNC's best chance for a lose against another ranked team.

The ACC/Big 10 butt kicking is over, but it was only 6-5, so it was a lot closer this year, but both main match ups were won by a lot by the ACC. They are still much better at the top. Ohio State, PSU, Min, Northwestern and Wisconsin got the wins for the Big ten, besides OSU who beat da U on the road, and Wisconsin who beat Va tech on the road, those other 3 teams are not very good, and were playing bottom feeding ACC teams. Northwester's win at home vs Free shoe may have been the best for that group, Min beating Virginia at home is nothing special but you know PSU beating UGA Tech on the road is another good win. So maybe the big ten isn't as bad as everyone thinks, or the ACC isn't as great as everyone thinks... or UNC and Duke are great, but everyone else is average at best. I'm right, you're wrong.

week 13 NFL wrap up.. and other thoughts

well I only went 10-6 this week, bringing me to 120-72-1 on the year. I should have went with my Jets pick, as I said, it screams let down game, and I wouldn't be surprised if Denver won, should have went with it, oh well. Anyway, a few quick thoughts;

-I was so wrong about the Chargers and Jags it isn't even funny, and the Saints too, but the Chagrers and Jags more, I mean who saw that coming. Did Merriman mean that much to their defense. It is clear LDT is done being LDT, and now is just a good back at best, and that happens, but they are just bad. I am shocked by that, but I guess that's the NFL

-The Lions need to beat the Viks this week, or it may not happen for them. I am getting more and more on board with the 0-16, I just think with some of the close games they have had, they will win one, but maybe not. I kind of hope they don't, it will be funny. especially after their 4-0 preseason that got all their fans pumped, ha.

-Plax, Plax, Plax... listen, I love you, ok, I do, I have cheered for you for a long time, I watched a lot of your college games at MSU, before I was a college student, and MSU was my favorite school, and when the Giants got you I was so happy. We had some great times, but know this, no one player is bigger then the team, or the league. I am glad you are ok, but that is just dumb of you to do. I will quick steal a line from Chris Rock.
"Don't go to parties with Mendel dictators, sure it feels self inside, but what about all those n*ggas waiting outside with guns.. they know you ant got one."
well Plax, if you think you need a gun to be safe places, it might not be the best place for you to go. Just something to think about. How quick a fall. From catching the game wining TD in the super bowl, signing a big contract extension and then this happens, he may go to jail, he has already been suspended by the Giants for the season, and by no means will they take him back, I would be shocked. Hixon is playing great, smith and moss are still young, plus we drafted mario mannignham in the 2nd round last year, plus if tyre comes back. Yeah Toomer is old, but we have a good receiving core, we don't need you. You are a great player, one of my favorites actually, but we can win with out you, which we have shown. The Giants won games without you Plax, and they will win many more after you are gone. I just hope you figure that out, and you stay safe. I wish you well.

Quick note.. I need a Jacobs jersey now, xmas list folks, I need one, since my giants jersey now are LT, witch of course I can always wear, Lavar, I'm so sorry, my bad, shockey, who is now gone, and Plax, who is about to be gone. So that leads me with needing a Jacobs jersey, if anyone wants to get me one, that would be great, XL please.

-Duke-Purdue tonight should be a great one. Because the game is at Purdue I really think they are going to win. This is Duke's first true road game, and first real test of the year, lord knows the big ten needs some wins vs the ACC and this is a great chance to get one.

-Gonzaga-Tenn on Sunday was a lot of fun. The Zags are good, and I don't mean, mid major good, I mean final four chances good. They are loaded, and well coached, and still play like their are the underdogs in every game, that is a scary combination.

-Is it funny that UNC is number 1 in the guys polls and Uconn is number 2, where in the women's polls Uconn is number one, and UNC is number two... just thought I would share, if no one else saw that.. don't really know if it means anything, besides this is a great time to be a student at one of those schools.. you get to watch some great basketball.

-Did I mention if you need to have a gun to feel safe, you shouldn't go to that place

-MSU-UNC tomorrow. I wish I was going, but since the boss has her last grad class that night I will be watching it at home, MSU has a chance, they are a good team, but UNC is just so loaded. I really don't see UNC losing a big game, I think there only losses, if they have any, which I think they will, college basketball is just too hard to go undefeated the whole way and win a national title, IU in 76, is against teams that are not good, and just shoot the 3 ball well that game, get some guys in foul trouble and UNC comes out not ready to play and misses shots. Against better teams, I think they will be ready to go. Plus it isn't at MSU, it's at ford field, so sure there will be a lot of people there, but it isn't a true on campus home court advantage.

-Texas/OK, real quick, just cause a lot of talk about this has been happening the last few days. People wonder how can Texas beat OK and be below them, well OK also beat cinci who is the big east champ, and TCU who is a top 15 team in their non conference, who did Texas play. I am actually surprised more people haven't brought that up. If both teams played the same schedule and each had one loss, sure the team who won head to head should go, but there are so many other factors. Plus tech beat texas, and OK beat tech by over 40. Again, the big problem will be, if Mizzu wins, cause then does texas, who doesn't even make their conference title game go to the national title game over a team like USC who won their conference.. all hell would break lose then... who needs a playoff, this is so much fun. I'm right, you're wrong.
